New Guest Researcher at Concurrences

Dr Willie intends to examine the manner in which Anglophone Caribbean writings portray visually impaired and blind characters in comparison to Western Literatures.

It is important to recognise that there are stereotypical ways of representing these characters in Western Literatures, i.e. as tragic, prophetic, supernatural etc and I submit that though Caribbean Literature /Postcolonial Literature ought to be subversive, if there is a perpetuation of these ways of representing blind/visually impaired characters, it could be argued that the literature is complicit in the marginalisation of disabled people.

Dr Willie will be at LNU Concurrences until the 5th of December.
