We welcome a new member to Concurrences, Birgit Tremml-Werner
Birgit Tremml-Werner, is a new researcher in History and a new member of Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies. She received close to SEK 4 million divided over 4 years for the project Encountering Diplomacy in Early Modern Southeast Asia: Actors, Practices, Translation.
Following her undergraduate studies in History and Japanese Studies Birgit Tremml-Werner completed her PhD at the University of Vienna in July 2012 (published with Amsterdam University Press in 2015 as Spain, China and Japan in Manila, 1571-1644. Local Comparisons and Global Connections). Between 2013 and 2015 she held a postdoc research fellowship from the Japanese Society of the Promotion of Science for her project entitled “Intercultural Communication and Foreign Relations in East and Southeast Asian Port Cities” at the University of Tokyo. Since september 2016, Birgit Tremml-Werner has worked as HERA Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the department of history, University of Zurich.
Her research interests include colonial history, early modern intercultural diplomacy and communication processes, as well as the social history of port cities.
