Gunlög Fur has been elected to the Board of CISH

LNUC Concurrences member Gunlög Fur, professor in History at Linnaeus University has been elected as member of the board of CISH/ICHS. CISH/ICHS is an international non-government organization founded in 1926 in order to promote collaboration and exchanges of ideas between historians across the world. It has over 50 member organizations, including the Swedish Historical Association, and organizes the World History Congresses, which normally are held every five years.

-It´s an honor to have been elected to the board of an organization that covers the whole world, says Gunlög. It´s unique to have a worldwide organization! I think CISH should use the knowledge that exists in national historians' organizations and affiliated specialist networks to contribute with historical perspectives on current issues, such as global warming, pandemics and questionable democracies.

-The past year's corona epidemic and revolutionary political unrest have affected women, who have lost jobs and livelihoods around the world. Young, female academics have lost the opportunity for research and publication. Climate change and the pandemic are hitting hard on vulnerable groups, and the many elderly people who have died among indigenous peoples around the world are leading to a great loss of knowledge about history, the environment and diversity. As a member of the board of CISH I want to work to support younger generations of historians, with a special focus on women and minorities.
