Jeronimo Ortiz Cabrera visiting Linnaeus University

Alumnus creates grant for Mexican students

Jeronimo Ortiz Cabrera from Mexico came to Linnaeus University (then called Växjö University) as an exchange student. He liked it so much that he came back later on to do a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Now, twenty years later, he is back in Växjö again, setting up a grant for Mexican students planning to study at Linnaeus University.

“I know how hard it can be to make ends meet when you’re a student, especially if you’re an international student. That’s why I want to create a grant for Mexican students, so they can get the most out of their time here”, says Jeronimo.

The grant was originally meant to start last year but was postponed due to COVID. “Instead, we will award two grants this year”, Jeronimo continues.

Jeronimo’s time as a student at Linnaeus University has had a great impact on how his life has turned out.

“I acquired tools and ways of thinking that have helped me build my business and which affect how I think and act today. And – I wrote my thesis together with a German bloke, who ended up becoming a close friend. We have started a number of businesses together, with varied success”, Jeronimo laughs.

The grant is for SEK 15 000 and will be awarded annually.
