Hello there! Jennie Kalebsson, exchange student from the School of Business and Economics to ZHAW School of Management and Law in Switzerland.

Jennie Kalebsson, a student at Civilekonomprogrammet, took the opportunity to go on exchange studies and chose to study for a semester in Switzerland.

The application for exchange studies opens on October 14th. Contact the School of Business and Economics' International Coordinators at mobility.sbe@lnu.se if you are interested or want to know more.

What made you interested in exchange studies?

I like to travel and knew even before I started at Lnu that I wanted to go abroad. When the opportunity to spend part of my education abroad within Civilekonomprogrammet, it felt very natural to me. I also took inspiration from previous students who made the choice even easier.

You spent a semester outside of Zurich, Switzerland. How come it became that particular destination?

My first choice was actually Paris. It was when I couldn't get suitable courses within my program that I was forced to change. Actually, the destination didn't matter that much as long as I actually got to go on exchange. When I googled pictures of Switzerland and where I was going, the choice didn't feel difficult to go there instead.

How do you get hold of accommodation?

Initially, I joined various Facebook groups. What you should remember is that there are those who are very unserious there too. The school also had its own accommodation in a corridor. The International Office also sent out links to various landlords that they considered trustworthy. It was through those contacts that I finally got hold of my accommodation. I would also like to add that accommodation in Switzerland is very expensive for those who are considering going there.

How did you enjoy it as a student there?

In addition to very nice cities and beautiful nature, the student association ESN organized a lot of activities to help you feel a sense of connection. The school also organized activities for us students.

Did you see any academic differences?

It was quite a big change because you take all the courses at the same time. I took a total of 8 courses, all of which ended with an exam period at the end of the semester. There were a lot more oral examinations than I'm used to. An examination could be a presentation, for example, both individually and in groups.

How did you experience it?

At first, it was unusual to give presentations in English for a long time, but you got warm in your clothes and I appreciated having several different forms of examination.

Is there anything that you would have liked to do differently related to the exchange?

I experienced the application for the exchange via Lnu was quite complicated. I should have started the process earlier and taken more help from those who work with exchanges. All so that my choices would be as well-founded as possible. Finding info about courses that also suited my program was difficult.

What experiences do you take with you further in your education and also further in life?

I have strengthened my confidence in myself. Not to be afraid to throw myself into new contexts. I have also met a lot of people. Not only from Switzerland but also from other countries. As a result, I have also gained insight into other people's perspectives and what their experiences are.

Another thing is that I have had the opportunity to improve my English skills. In the beginning it was unusual, but gradually it lets go and it becomes fun to use the language more broadly. Hopefully, this is also something that future employers see as a merit when I am looking for a job.
