Dean Susanne Ackum appointed principal secretary in the government’s AI Commission
Susanne Ackum, dean at the School of Business and Economics at Linnaeus University has been appointed principal secretary in the Swedish government’s AI Commission. The commission aims to strengthen Swedish competitiveness by contributing to the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in Sweden.
“I see the commission’s work as very important for the major transition that is currently underway and which is likely to accelerate in the wake of all the new technology – not least generative AI”, says Ackum.
Artificial intelligence can present great opportunities, such as increased innovation capacity, strengthened competitiveness, more efficient public administration, and improved welfare. The government believes that Sweden needs to capitalise on this potential, while also managing the risks. The commission's overall mission will be to analyse and provide concrete suggestions on how AI can promote Sweden as a leading research nation, advanced industrial nation, and ambitious welfare nation.
Susanne Ackum, what will your role be as principal secretary in the commission's work?
"A principal secretary is to be considered a project manager. I will coordinate the work and ensure that the commission's reports are delivered on time, for example", says Ackum.
The commission's work will be led by Carl-Henrik Swanberg, chair of the board for AB Volvo, and a report should be submitted to the government by 1 July 2025 at the latest.
