Khaled Walid

Hello there! Khaled Walid, just back from the EUniWell School Ambassador Programme in Florence

Khaled Walid is a EUniWell school ambassador alongside his studies in the master’s programme in Political Science in Växjö. He shares his experiences as a school ambassador during the autumn and what’s coming up in this role.

What does a school ambassador do?

A school ambassador within EUniWell has a special role that extends beyond the boundaries of the university and into an international collaboration. An ambassador in EUniWell not only represents their own university but also contributes to a European community focused on promoting well-being, sustainability, and inclusion in higher education.

The school ambassadors have the opportunity to collaborate with students from other EUniWell universities across Europe. This involves participating in international workshops, seminars, and projects that strengthen EUniWell’s shared objectives. The collaboration provides a deeper understanding of how well-being issues are addressed in different countries and enables joint solutions to challenges.

The experience of being in Florence and working with EuniWell was incredible and inspiring. We learnt a lot and felt that we could contribute to something important

We also have an important role as sources of inspiration, particularly for students who may feel uncertain about higher education. By sharing their own experiences and guiding others, the school ambassadors help more people dare to pursue university studies, regardless of their background or any potential obstacles.

A EUniWell ambassador also works to create an inclusive and supportive atmosphere at their university. This involves highlighting underrepresented groups and creating opportunities for more people to feel involved and welcome in the academic world.

You recently visited Florence along with school ambassadors from the other ten partner universities as part of the production of the EUniCast podcast. Tell us about that!

In Florence, I participated in the production of EUniCast, a podcast created by and for students within EUniWell. EUniCast explores student life through different themes.

The production gave me practical experience in media production and an understanding of how to create content that appeals to a broad audience.

I also connected with students from other EUniWell universities, which has given me new perspectives on education and culture while also teaching me how to work in multicultural teams.

What motivated you to become a student ambassador?

Facts: The EUniWell school ambassador programme

Within EUniWell (the European University for Well-Being), students from various European universities are given a unique opportunity to engage with issues related to well-being, sustainability, equity, and inclusion. A school ambassador has the chance to represent their university while at the same time being part of a larger network of students from other EUniWell universities across Europe.
The programme aims to create a stronger connection between universities and society and to promote initiatives that enhance student well-being and engagement.

The student ambassadors participate in international collaborations, get the opportunity to develop leadership skills, and work on projects that have a positive impact on both their local and international communities. They also serve as role models and sources of inspiration for other students, particularly for those who may face challenges in their studies. The programme thus offers both personal development and an opportunity to contribute to a better, more inclusive society through education and international collaboration.

I became a student ambassador for EUniWell because I want to work to improve well-being in both education and society. I was drawn to the opportunity to collaborate with students from other European universities and to contribute to initiatives that promote equity and sustainability. I have a strong interest in international collaboration and extensive experience in this field.

I also want to inspire more students to pursue university studies, particularly among groups that are underrepresented in society, such as people with visual impairments. This group often faces barriers and challenges that can discourage them from pursuing higher education.

As an ambassador for EUniWell, I want to be a role model for students considering university studies, especially those facing unique challenges and who may feel uncertain about whether academic education is the right path for them.

Being a EUniWell school ambassador is about supporting students as they begin their university studies. What was it like for you when you started at Linnaeus University?

Starting at Linnaeus University has been a positive and rewarding experience. Initially, it was very challenging because of my visual impairment. I started university to see if it would be the right fit for me and if it would work. But since I’m determined and see everything as a challenge, I approached it with great commitment – I like challenges because they give me strength.

My ambition is to find ways to turn challenges and obstacles into opportunities. The welcoming and supportive environment at the university has also helped me grow, both academically and personally. Through EUniWell, I’ve also gained access to international networks and resources that have made my time as a student even better.

What’s coming up for you as a school ambassador?

I plan to continue engaging in EUniWell’s initiatives by participating in upcoming events and projects. I’m looking forward to contributing to the development of new programmes that support student well-being and to strengthening collaboration between EUniWell’s partner universities. I also hope to inspire more students to get involved in EUniWell’s activities and take advantage of the opportunities the alliance offers.
