EUniWell summer school on a study visit to Brussels
Currently, 23 students are on a study visit to Brussels as part of the EUniWell Summer School on Global Peace, Democratic Governance & Well-Being. The students come from Brazil, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Spain, Ukraine, USA and Sweden.
Fittingly, the week started with a study visit to the European Parliament, as it was the day after the European elections had taken place. Students listened to and participated in discussions about the election results and their impact on the EU's community of values as well as on the state of democracy within the EU Member States.
A couple of the course themes have been global peace and security as well as global challenges to liberal democracy. In connection with this, the students have, among other things, worked on questions such as how does a democracy die and what warning signals do democracies need to be aware of.
The course is led by Daniel Silander, associate professor in political science, and is given by Linnaeus University in collaboration with EUniWell partners from the universities of Kiev, Florence and Murcia and together with the Global Governance Institute in Brussels.
