Linnaeus University ranked 30th in the world for tourism studies
Linnaeus University is ranked as the 30th best institution in the world for research and education in the field of hospitality and tourism, in the latest global university ranking by the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
The new ranking marks a step up from last year’s position at 45 and makes Linnaeus University the highest-ranked Nordic university in the field.
“A key focus of research in tourism studies is strengthening the transition to renewable energy in tourism areas, promoting sustainable interaction between people and nature, and addressing sustainability in relation to how we choose to eat and travel”, says Marianna Strzelecka, associate professor at the Department of Marketing and Tourism Studies and manager of Linnaeus Knowledge Environment: Sustainable Tourism.
“Being ranked 30th in the world and the best among the Nordic countries according to the Shanghai ranking is clear evidence that we have a world-class environment of international excellence. Having an environment of this calibre at Linnaeus University inspires our other environments and demonstrates that we are developing as a university with each passing year”, says Lars Behrenz, associate professor of economics and deputy vice-chancellor for challenge-driven knowledge creation and analysis at Linnaeus University.
In this year’s ranking, Linnaeus University also performs well in the subject area of nursing, with a ranking in the 201–300 range among the world’s universities. In the overall university ranking, Linnaeus University is placed in the 901–1000 range.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai ranking, is one of the three most prestigious global university rankings, alongside the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It has been published annually since 2003.
