Migration to a new Microsoft 365 environment – what you need to do as a student

During the summer of 2024, the IT Department migrated all students’ current Microsoft 365 accounts to a new Microsoft 365 environment.

This change offers numerous benefits and will improve your digital workspace, but it also requires you to take certain actions to ensure a smooth transition.

This is what you need to do:

Imagine moving from one house to another. Just as you pack and move your belongings to a new home, you now need to transfer your digital materials.

  1. Pack your belongings: Review your current digital content and decide what needs to be transferred. This includes documents, images, projects, and other files currently stored in OneDrive and Teams.
  2. Move to the new environment: You will need to manually download your materials from the old environment and then upload them to the new Microsoft 365 environment. Just like moving physical boxes, this will require some time and effort, but it is essential to ensure all your materials are in the right place.
  3. Organise your new home: Once your files have been transferred to the new Microsoft 365 environment, take the time to organise them. Create folders and structure your digital content in a way that works best for you.

No later than 31 December 2024, you need to have transferred your documents to the new environment. After this date, you will no longer be able to log in to the old environment.

The Service Portal provides more information on the exact steps to follow:

Benefits of the new Microsoft 365 environment:

  • Better integration: All your tools and services will be seamlessly integrated, making it easier to work and collaborate with other students and teaching staff.
  • Improved security: Microsoft 365 offers robust security features to protect your data.
  • Increased accessibility: You can easily access your files and applications from anywhere, on any device.
  • Closer collaboration: You will be closer to teaching and other staff, enhancing communication, file sharing, and other digital opportunities through the use of Teams groups and other collaboration tools.

This transition may feel like a major task, but the IT Department is here to assist you throughout the process. If you need help or have any questions, do not hesitate to contact IT Support.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we undertake this important upgrade to enhance your digital experience.
