Students showcase their passion for design and sustainability through unique exhibition
This weekend, there is an exhibition in Växjö city centre. The exhibition, that highlights how we can promote sustainable change in society, is named "What's going on?". Students from three different design programmes display their degree projects to manifest their passion for design and sustainability.
Simone, one of the students, explains that the exhibition covers everything from how design can strengthen the connection between humans to how accessibility can be improved in packaging and how we can promote a sustainable future from social, environmental, and economic perspectives. The students have worked actively to ensure that everyone, regardless of disabilities, can participate in the exhibition.
"For example, we have chosen to use only on the ground floor so that everyone can move around the venue. This limited our space for the exhibition, but it was a decision we did not want to compromise on," says Simone.
For visitors who are visually impaired, the NavilensGo app will make it possible to access information about each project through QR codes. The students have also collaborated with Italienska palatset, which provided them with building materials for the exhibition, and Café OAS contributed with refreshments for all visitors during the vernissage.
"The most challenging part has been getting all the different projects to coexist and stand out. Our hope is that visitors will have an 'aha' moment and gain new perspectives on how design can be used to create a better future," Simone continues.
He believes that as young designers, they carry social and ecological as well as economic perspectives with them. The students want to influence not only the visitors at the exhibition through their design thinking but also make an impact on a larger scale by contributing to sustainable societal development for future generations.
