Ambrose Dodoo elected member of the UN expert panel for improved use of resources

Researcher Ambrose Dodoo is one of twelve new members of the UN International Resource Panel, an expert panel that works for better use of the earth's resources. Ambrose is a researcher in building technology with a focus on sustainable construction.

The International Resource Panel (IRP) was launched by the United Nations in 2007 and consists of 33 researchers with expertise in resource management. Their mission is to build and share the knowledge needed to improve our use of resources worldwide, with the goal to steer us away from overconsumption, waste and ecological harm. Now twelve new researchers have been added to the panel. One of them is Ambrose Dodoo, professor of building technology at Linnaeus University.

“I am honoured to have been appointed as a member of the International Resource Panel. This is a valuable opportunity to collaborate with leading experts, support global initiatives in sustainable resource management, and address pressing environmental challenges. I look forward to contributing to the panel’s important work”, says Ambrose Dodoo.

The construction sector needs to become more sustainable

Ambrose's research is about sustainable construction, which will be his focus on the expert panel. Buildings and construction are areas that consume a lot of resources and have a large environmental impact. In the EU alone, the sector accounts for nearly half of all extracted materials and energy use, as well as one-third of water consumption and total waste generation.

“We need to address these challenges in the construction sector. It is crucial in order to enhance global resource efficiency and reduce pressure on ecosystems. And thereby support sustainable development”, says Ambrose Dodoo.

Together with the other members of the panel, Ambrose will develop recommendations for decision-makers on the sustainable use of natural resources, with a particular focus on the building and construction sectors.

“I will contribute with my expertise in building technology, circular economy and life cycle assessment. In this way, I hope to support the development of science-based strategies for a resource-efficient, low-carbon society”, says Ambrose Dodoo.
