Donation event at the University Library

Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv donates books to Linnaeus University to promote Ukrainian cultural heritage

During a visit to Linnaeus University in Kalmar in early June, representatives from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv – a partner in the EUniWell alliance – donated a collection of Ukrainian books to the University Library.

The donation includes books on Ukrainian culture, politics, language, history, and education, as well as non-fiction works about Ukrainian cities and landmarks. Most of the books are written in Ukrainian by Ukrainian authors.

–This initiative aims to promote knowledge about Ukrainian history, art, language, and culture. We take every opportunity to share Ukrainian literature with our partners, and Linnaeus University is one of our closest collaborators within the EUniWell alliance.

The books will enrich the University Library´s collection with new materials in Ukrainian. The initiative also supports the broader effort led by Ukraine’s First Lady, Mrs Olena Zelenska, to establish Ukrainian bookshelves in institutions around the world, explains Roman Petyur, Head of the International Relations Office and Associate Professor.

The donation was received by Library Director Lotta Gustafsson, together with Emelie Uggla Waldenström, Acting Section Head of the Media and Systems Section.

–We understand that the donation is intended to share Ukrainian voices and stories that reflect the Ukrainian perspective. We will put the donation in context and do our best to make the books visible and accessible to our visitors, says Lotta Gustafsson.

The University Library plans to make an exhibition of the donated books and other materials about Ukraine already available in the library.
