EUniWell Social Talks: How has Black Lives Matter affected racism in education?
The turbulence in world politics in recent weeks has called into question many of the values previously taken for granted. This emphasises the importance of public institutions, not least universities, standing up for basic human rights.
-Higher education should be a place where everyone has equal opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background. By understanding and combating racism, institutions can create a fairer and more inclusive environment for all students and staff,’ says Charlotte Silander, Associate Professor of Political Science and Academic Director of EUniWell's work on social equality and well-being.
Professor Kalwant Bhopal will give a hybrid lecture at Linnaeus University in Växjö on 20 March, as part of EUniWell's open lecture series ‘Social Talks - Fighting Discrimination in Europe’.
Professor Bhopal is based at the University of Birmingham where she researches racism in higher education with a focus on educational inequalities. Her research examines the impact of racism, exclusion and marginalisation on minority groups in predominantly white educational settings.
Everyone is invited to attend Kalwant Bhopal's lecture Racism in Higher Education: Social Justice, Inclusion and Privilege in the Light of Black Lives Matter.
Time: 20 March at 13.00-15.00
Location: Växjö campus, hall Weber, building K or participate digitally via Zoom
