Linnaeus University ranks eleventh in the world in Climate action
In this year's Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, which is based on the UN's sustainable development goals, Linnaeus University maintains its position in the 301–400 range out of 2 526 higher education institutions worldwide. In the area of Climate action, the university ranks eleventh.
The Times Higher Education Impact Ranking is conducted annually by the British magazine Times Higher Education. It ranks higher education institutions based on how well they work to fulfil the UN's 17 sustainable development goals in the 2030 Agenda.
In this year's ranking, Linnaeus University remains in the 301–400 range out of 2 526 higher education institutions worldwide.
“We maintain our position even though the number of universities assessed has increased by almost 400 since last year. This shows that our work to fulfil the vision of setting knowledge in motion for sustainable societal development continues to yield results”, says Lars Behrenz, deputy vice-chancellor for challenge-driven knowledge creation and analysis.
“Every day, we’re getting better at attracting collaborative partners, publishing quality research and making our work more visible.”
Eleventh in the world in the climate action area
Within goal number 13, Climate action, Linnaeus University is ranked eleventh.
“Being ranked eleventh in the world in terms of research, education and internal and external activities to combat climate change feels incredibly good! Linnaeus University's vision is that our research, education and collaboration should leave an impact on society in the climate field, among others. We have now received important recognition for this from a world-leading company in analyses of the world's university activities”, says Lars Behrenz.
Strong commitment to sustainability
The high ranking reflects Linnaeus University's strong commitment to sustainability in research and education. Some highlights are Linnaeus University Centre for Ecology and Evolution in Microbial model Systems (EEMiS), which studies aquatic ecosystems with a focus on the interactions between microorganisms, animals, and environmental factors, and the university’s extensive research in its area of strength Forest Values. Earlier this year, the university’s internal climate efforts were recognized by finishing in first place in the Climate Students’ ranking of Swedish higher education institutions.
Linnaeus University is also highly ranked for its work in the areas of Life below water (ranked 101–200), as well as in Gender equality, Clean water and sanitation, and Sustainable cities and communities (201–300).
