Alfilgen Sebandal

Mathematics researcher honored for dissertation

Alfilgen Sebandal, a mathematics researcher at Linnaeus University in Växjö, has been awarded the "Outstanding PhD Award" by the Mathematical Society of the Philippines. Her thesis has contributed to partially solving a mathematical problem that had remained unsolved for over 12 years.

Prior to her position at Linnaeus University, Alfilgen Sebandal was a doctoral student av Mindanao State University in the Philippines, where she defended her dissertation titled "Applications of the Talented Monoids in the Graded Classifications of the Leavitt path Algebras."

"In my dissertation, I have worked on solving a special case of a mathematical problem that has remained unsolved for over 12 years. It concerns something called Leavitt path algebras, a mathematical object that helps us understand how networks or systems can function" says Alfilgen Sebandal.
