Guo Rongrong, IMS

Visiting PhD Student Specializing in Intermediality

PhD student Guo Rongrong from Beijing Institute of Technology, is currently spending a year at the campus in Växjö with Linnaeus University Centre for Intermedial and Multimodal Studies (IMS).

We asked Guo Rongrong about her research and why she wanted to join IMS.

What is your research focus and areas of interest?

My primary research focus is on intermedial studies within English and American literature. Currently, I am particularly interested in the experimental intermedial novels found in American postmodern literature. This involves exploring how narratives and themes are expressed and transformed across different media forms, and how these experimental forms challenge traditional literary boundaries.

Why do you want to spend time with IMS?

During my research on intermediality in China, I have consulted a substantial amount of scholarly literature, much of which has been produced by members of the Centre for Intermedial and Multimodal Studies at Linnaeus University. Their work has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of the field. I believe that spending time at IMS will provide me with invaluable academic guidance, access to rich resources, and opportunities to engage deeply with a vibrant scholarly community that shares my research interests.

What do you hope to contribute during your time here?

During my time at IMS, I hope to gain a more systematic and comprehensive understanding of intermedial research through both coursework and collaboration. I intend to synthesize my learning into academic papers for publication, aiming to raise awareness and interest among Chinese scholars about this emerging and dynamic research area. Ultimately, I aspire to contribute to fostering cross-cultural academic exchanges and promoting the development of intermedial studies within the Chinese academic community.
