Researchers Meet to Discuss Statistics and Economics

On April 10, 2025, a number of researchers in statistics and economics met to exchange ideas and experiences. Among other things, they gained knowledge about the latest advancements and techniques in statistics and finance.

The 1st Workshop on Statistics and Finance, was held on 10 April 2025 at Linnaeus University, Sweden. The workshop was organized by the Department of Economics and Statistics at the School of Business and Economics.

The purpose of the workshop was to stimulate research and, in an informal setting, to promote the interaction between researchers using statistics in different fields, especially with a focus on finance and economics. The workshop provided a forum through which statisticians and economists could be better informed about the latest developments and newest techniques in statistics and finance. Topics covered during the workshop included the Cure models, quadratic subspaces, portfolio optimization, shrinkage estimation strategies with applications.

The workshop was also entertained by two distinguished keynote speakers:

- Professor N. Balakrishna, McMaster University, Canada, his research interest is primarily concerned with the development of probabilistic and statistical models and their applications to various problems arising in science and engineering. In particular, he focuses on developing models for the analysis of data that emerge from medical studies, reliability and life-testing experiments, and industrial statistical problems. He is the author of more than 20 books and numerous peer-reviewed articles with  89952 recorded Google Scholar citations, and has successfully supervised more than 70 PhD students.

-  Professor D. von Rosen, Linköping University, Sweden. His research profile includes linear models, multivariate analysis, bilinear models, high dimensional analysis and matrix algebra. He is the author of two books and more than 130 peer-reviewed articles and has successfully supervised 19 PhD students.
