Graham Butler the presiding judge of the EUniWell Moot Court 2026

Professor Graham Butler of the Department of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences at Linnaeus University, served as President of the panel of judges at the EUniWell Moot Court 2026, chairing the competition. By this contribution, Linnaeus University continues to support the development of future lawyers.

EUniWell Moot Court in 2026 was organised under the leadership of Associate Professor Araceli Turmo, Vice Dean for International Relations at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Nantes University, France, and took place at Nantes University on 24–25 March 2026.

Deepen the understanding of European law

The EUniWell Moot Court, now in its third edition, brings together students from across the European University for Well-Being (EUniWell) alliance to deepen their understanding of European law through collaborative, high-level legal debate.

For students, the competition is designed to cultivate core professional abilities in law, including legal analysis and application of EU law; public speaking and persuasiveness; written and oral advocacy; and teamwork and intercultural communication, inter alia. The EUniWell Moot Court stands out as a platform for students to develop within a European and international environment.

For universities, the EUniWell Moot Court enhances mobility, academic cooperation, and a shared European identity across the alliance. It meaningfully contributes to strengthening academic excellence across the EUniWell alliance and to building a shared sense of identity among its partner institutions, an ambition aligned with fostering the next generation of European legal professionals.

Support the development of future lawyers

As President of the panel of judges for the EUniWell Moot Court 2026, Professor Graham Butler led the jury composed of legal academics and practitioners from EUniWell partner universities. He presided over all stages of the proceedings, including the first round, semi‑finals, and final, guiding the panel’s deliberations and ensuring that the competition was conducted in accordance with its procedural rules.

By contributing to this year’s edition of the EUniWell Moot Court, Linnaeus University continues to support the development of future lawyers equipped with strong analytical and communication skills and with practical experience collaborating across borders.

The participating teams in the EUniWell Moot Court 2026 came from the University of Murcia, Spain (Universidad de Murcia); University of Florence, Italy (Università degli Studi di Firenze); University of Cologne, Germany (Universität zu Köln), National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilisations, France (Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (Inalco)); Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, the University of Birmingham, and Nantes University, France (Nantes Université). The winning team of the EUniWell Moot Court 2026 was the University of Birmingham.
