IMS Elin Ivansson

IMS: Crafoord funded postdoc Elin Ivansson

Researcher Elin Ivansson is currently engaged in her Crafoord-funded postdoctoral research project “Truth, Fiction, Memory and the Archive: An Empirical Study of Transmodal Meaning-Making” at the Linnaeus University Centre for Intermedial and Multimodal Studies (IMS).

We asked Elin Ivansson about her research and why she wanted to join IMS.

What is your research focus and areas of interest?

My research centres around multimodality and archival poetics in fiction from a multimodal cognitive stylistic perspective. I am particularly interested in the complex reading experiences that works of multimodal archival fiction elicit through their visual inclusion of both fictional and factual archival material. In my current Crafoord- funded postdoctoral research project ‘Truth, Fiction, Memory and the Archive: An Empirical Study of Transmodal Meaning-Making,’ I investigate this reading experience further through a mixed-method reception study where I combine a more traditional reader-response study design with an eye-tracking element.

Why do you want to spend time with IMS?

I have followed the work of IMS from a far for quite a few years, so I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of this vibrant research community in person, and work on this project with the mentorship of Dr Anne Holm. I look forward to engaging with scholars who share my interest in intermediality and multimodality studies from a variety of perspectives and see how my research can grow from their input and feedback.

What do you hope to contribute during your time here?

By combing intermedial and multimodal studies with a cognitive stylistic approach to reception study, my study brings an empirical and cognitive approach to multimodal and intermedial studies at IMS which I hope can inspire future research projects.
