The exhibition space in Ngurunit under construction

Building an Exhibition Space for Contemporary Samburu Rock Art in Ngurunit, Northern Kenya

Within the framework of the research project Making rock art today – encounters with practicing Samburu rock art painters, we are constructing a community and exhibition space in Ngurunit in northern Kenya. The building, which is being developed in collaboration with the local NGO Empower the Northern Frontier, is primarily intended to serve as an exhibition venue for the unique cultural heritage of the Samburu people, particularly their still-practiced tradition of making rock art.

The exhibition will be accessible both digitally, through screens, and through more traditional signage. The initiative is funded by the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and aims to communicate the research results from the project Making rock art today – encounters with practicing Samburu rock art painters.
