The University Board Proposes New Vice-Chancellor for Linnaeus University

At its meeting on 19 February, the Board of Linnaeus University decided to propose Göran Hilmersson, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Gothenburg, as the new Vice-Chancellor of Linnaeus University. The proposal will now be forwarded to the Swedish government, which will make the formal decision.

“I am deeply honoured by the assignment and the trust placed in me,” says Göran Hilmersson. “Linnaeus University has great potential and a clear societal relevance that I find inspiring. I look forward to getting to know a new organisation, new people, and new contexts. It will be very exciting.”

Göran Hilmersson is a Professor of Organic Chemistry and, since 2018, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Gothenburg. He has more than 20 years of experience in academic leadership in complex roles with large staff groups.

The term of office for the university’s current Vice-Chancellor expires on 30 September.
