Linnaeus University is granted funding to recruit two visiting researchers

Linnaeus University is recruiting two visiting researchers in the areas of sustainable timber structures and artificial intelligence for industrial applications. The recruitments are funded through the Knowledge Foundation’s programme Capacity Building, which aims to strengthen the research capacity of higher education institutions and provide industry with better access to cutting‑edge expertise.

The Department of Building Technology will host Andre R. Barbosa from Oregon State University. He specializes in structural dynamics and timber engineering and will work on projects that deepen knowledge about the long‑term performance of timber structures.

"The institution’s expertise aligns closely with my own research interests, and the collaborative culture in Swedish academia and industry makes it an ideal setting for knowledge exchange", says Andre R. Barbosa.

The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology will host Vinicius Prado da Fonseca from Memorial University of Newfoundland to strengthen research in robotics, tactile sensing, and artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on industrial systems.

"At Linnaeus University, I will collaborate on advancing tactile perception and adaptive control architectures to enable robots to operate safely in unstructured environments, specifically supporting human-robot collaboration within Industry 4.0. Additionally, I will apply AI-driven multi-modal sensor fusion and anomaly detection to improve predictive maintenance and system reliability for the forestry and manufacturing sectors", says Vinicius Prado da Fonseca.
