Kevin conducted a market analysis for the robotics company Yaskawa
- Internships are valuable for us students. It's a way into the job market, says Kevin Hewer. He is a student in the Master’s program for International Business at Linnaeus University and has recently completed a ten-week internship at the robotics company Yaskawa.
- My assignment was to carry out a market analysis. I interviewed various departments within the company and looked at statistics from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) to see how Yaskawa is developing and how it stands in the market compared to other robotics companies, says Kevin Hewer.
For Kevin, it was an interesting few weeks as he gained insight into the company and had the opportunity to provide feedback from an outside perspective.
-The company may be operating in old routines, while we students come in with fresh eyes and can apply the theories we've learned in school, says Kevin Hewer.
Niklas Rickardsson, department head at Yaskawa, agrees that students can contribute valuable knowledge during their internships.
A valuable process
- Some students help us think outside the box and it is a good process for us at the company to explain to a student what we do and how our company works.
However, to ensure a good internship experience, there are a few things to consider, both for the company and for the student.
-It is important for the company to put aside time for the student. It is also essential for students applying for internships to be clear about their current skills and how they can be beneficial to the company, says Niklas Rickardsson.
