Subproject: Open Access to Research Data
Linnaeus University has established a research data support unit in collaboration with the Swedish National Data Service (SND), which facilitates training in research data management and which offers Sunet Drive for data storage. The research support services have been developed since 2019, and the goal is to provide Lnu researchers with sufficient support to make as much research data as possible openly accessible from 2026.
Description of the subproject
Open science is about increasing the transparency, reproducibility, replicability, and accessibility of research, where open research data play a key role. Both nationally and internationally, many people are working to make research data open and accessible. The Swedish government’s National Roadmap for the European Research Area 2019–2020 stipulates that open access to research data should be fully implemented in Sweden by 2026 at the latest.
Of the overarching objectives specified in the project plan for open science, the following are relevant to this subproject:
- to drive the work on open science and formulate recommendations for how the university’s ongoing work should be conducted and organised
- to increase understanding of and enhance competence in open science, through communication, training initiatives, creation of forums for sharing experiences, etc.
- to identify trade-offs concerning aspects such as security, ethics, and legal issues
- to actively collaborate with other higher education institutions, infrastructures, funders, and authorities, to maximise resource efficiency and identify coordination benefits.
