Traveling with Art

At the university quay in Kalmar, you'll find contemporary art that's grown out of a long-term, thematic effort, where the focus is on the dialogue between art, place, and people.

Right from the early stages of campus construction, there was close collaboration between art curators, architects, project managers, and representatives from the university's departments. Together, they formulated a vision: that art should be an integral part of the academic environment—not as decoration, but as an active voice in the space of knowledge.

The theme of the work has revolved around storytelling, identity, and belonging. Whose voices are heard? Who feels included—or excluded? How can art help to highlight what often remains unsaid? These questions have guided the selection of works, as well as their placement in the various environments on campus.

The result is a multifaceted art collection where different expressions, perspectives, and stories are given space. Some works are understated and require time and reflection. Others are direct, playful, or provocative. Together, they create a dynamic whole that reflects the university's role as a meeting place for knowledge, culture, and social development.During the fall and spring semesters, we offer guided art tours on the Kalmar campus. See the calendar for the next opportunity.

We also offer booked art tours for staff groups, associations, visitors, etc.
