Linnaeus at Linnaeus University
Before Linnaeus University was founded, choosing a name was a major undertaking. More than ten years later, it’s time to revisit that choice. Carl Linnaeus is one of Sweden’s most renowned scientists – but is he the right role model for a modern university? For an institution where critical thinking and open discussion are essential, this is a question worth asking. The Linné installation in Växjö and the Linné Garden in Kalmar are part of this exploration. In 2024, we also launch LinnéTalks – a series of conversations where researchers and artists reflect on knowledge, learning, and education, inspired by the debates Linnaeus’ work and legacy continue to spark. Dates and themes will be posted here as they are confirmed, and recordings will be available via the link below.
LinnéTalks – A Forum for Dialogue
Is all knowledge good? Can it be used for both harm and benefit? Who holds responsibility for how knowledge is applied? LinnéTalks invites researchers and artists to explore these questions, reflecting on Linnaeus’ legacy and the implications of science’s quest for understanding. Watch recordings of the spring sessions below. Details for the autumn talks will be announced soon.
