Welcome to a specialised programme that delves into the heart of business and management control. This management master programme offers a profound exploration of efficiency, coordination, and strategic influence within the global business landscape, with a specific emphasis on business and management control.

This programme offers a unique opportunity to gain expertise in management accounting, financial control, and strategic decision-making, equipping you with the skills to make informed and impactful contributions to organisations.

Central to this programme is the pursuit of efficiency and excellence within organisations, driven by the imperatives of value creation in a highly competitive business environment. You will explore advanced management accounting systems, financial control, performance measurement, and strategies for management control.

This specialisation in business and management control commences with a dynamic first semester, featuring courses such as Contemporary Perspectives on Management Accounting and Advanced Economic Analysis, Information Systems & Risk Management. These courses provide a solid foundation and equip you with the knowledge and skills to design, implement and work with modern management accounting systems effectively.

As you progress, you will study integration of supply chains, the design of process-based control models and inter-organisational management accounting, research methodology and e-business management. The programme will end with the completion of a master's thesis, enabling you to explore an area of interest in-depth and make a meaningful contribution to the field. It is possible to graduate with a general master’s degree after one year.

The entire programme is conducted in English, drawing students from around the world to create a diverse and stimulating academic environment.

This two-year programme is composed by the two fields of logistics and supply chain management as well as management accounting, a combination that is unique of its kind.

Lars had previously studied Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Germany and was looking for a programme that would allow him to focus more on Supply Chain Management. He came across this programme, and with Linnaeus University being known as an international university, the choice was easy.

What do you work with today, Lars?

“I work in the German sales division of the carrier Maersk. More precise, I sell our services to global freight forwarders, such as Kühne+Nagel, DHL, Schenker, and DSV”.

How has the knowledge you acquired and the experiences you gained at Linnaeus University helped you in your career?

“I developed a lot as a person by being in a foreign country, with international students, in the safe environment that Linnaeus University provides. I also learned that there are different ways of dealing with problems, in for instance Sweden, compared to other places. This insight has given me the ability to tackle issues in different ways”.

What made Lars apply to the programme, was a combination of wanting more in-depth knowledge in supply chain management and the international perspective offered at Linnaeus University. He also knew people who had had a great stay in Sweden, both for holidays and studies. A combination of factors that made him apply, and later also register on the programme.

“I liked the teachers on the programme. I also enjoyed the Swedish way of studying where you have more time for individual studies than in Germany. Lectures normally took place two days a week, on Mondays and Fridays. Between classes, we had to prepare presentations, essays, or other smaller assignments. We worked in international groups and could manage our time almost completely as we saw fit. In my opinion, this is an important skill and responsibility one should learn at university”.

Lastly, how did you enjoy student life?

“I can, without a doubt, say that I had one of the best times of my life at Linnaeus University. It was so nice to get to know the Swedish culture – especially the concept of ‘fika’. During my time as a student in Sweden, I visited cities like Gothenburg, Stockholm, Karlskrona, Kalmar, Norrköping, Tallinn (Estonia), and Helsinki (Finland). We also travelled to Finnish Lapland, which was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Student life felt somewhat like at U.S. colleges, I must say. You also have great opportunities to engage in sports! If I would describe student life at Linnaeus University with one word it would be: Amazing”.

Växjö – the student city with a living campus

Just south of Växjö’s city centre you will find Linnaeus University’s campus. In Växjö, many students choose to live on campus.

Here you will have five minutes’ walking distance to friends, restaurants, lecture rooms, gym, grocery store, the University Library, nature trails, and student pubs. If you live in another part of Växjö, you can quickly get to the university by bus or bicycle.

With its 90 000 inhabitants, Växjö is one of the fastest growing cities in Sweden. Here you will find the famous Småland entrepreneurship spirit and a lot of companies, for instance within the IT industry – perfect for when you are looking for an internship position or a job. Växjö is also a picturesque city where you are always close to forests and water.
