Are you interested in societal issues and curious about how data, statistics, and mathematics can be used to understand and shape the world around you? Then the Economics programme is the right education for you. The programme will make you an economic analyst capable of making informed decisions and assessments that are essential in our globalized world.

During studies, several of the biggest societal issues of our time will be discussed. You will be equipped with powerful theoretical and empirical tools to analyze questions such as:

• Will artificial intelligence take our jobs?
• How can economic policy be used to solve the climate crisis?
• How can economic inequality be tackled?
• How should the tax system be designed?
• Is economic growth beneficial?

You will also gain statistical expertise, analytical skills, and theoretical sharpness. The Economics programme at Linnaeus University is unique in that it provides practical experience in analyzing modern and "big data," while still offering a traditional education in economics. In this way, the programme addresses the growing demand in various fields for skills that describe and visualize complex issues using data.

During your studies, you will complete independent assignments and essays. It is possible for you to do an internship in an organization that works with economics.

In the third and final year of the programme, you have the chance to tailor your education. You can choose between four course packages, allowing you to shape your career path:

• Financial Analytics
For those who want to work in banking and finance, this track equips you with skills to interpret and analyze financial data.

• Business Analytics
Oriented towards those interested in learning how today’s companies work practically with large and complex data sets to make strategic decisions.

• Data Analysis of Public Policy
Focuses on how economic policy reforms can be analyzed using large data sets and machine learning. This is ideal if you are interested in working as an analyst for government agencies or banks.

• You can also choose a course package that grants you a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics. This includes courses in areas such as law, accounting, and finance.

During your studies, there are excellent opportunities to study abroad to give your education an international perspective. Our teachers are active researchers, which means you will be exposed to the latest knowledge and research in the field.

Career

After graduation, you will be well-prepared for a career as an economist. You can work as an analyst or researcher, among others. Your skills are highly sought after and valuable in both the private and public sectors. Some examples of potential employers include:

• Government agencies such as the Public Employment Service, the central bank of Sweden, or the Government Offices
• Banks, which value your expertise in financial economics and macroeconomics
• Interest organizations, both on the employee and employer sides
• Large and medium-sized companies that require your knowledge in data analysis
