Swedish national doctoral school in digital humanities: data, culture, and society – critical perspectives (DASH)

Studying the nexus of data, culture and society is purported to be a success factor for value creation in a world of fast-pacing technology. DASH targets PhD candidates in the humanities and social sciences who do not yet possess specific computational or technical knowledge or skills, but who are interested in learning more with the purpose of applying this to their future thesis work.

DASH is the Swedish National Research School focusing on the study of data, culture, and society. The research school aims to strengthen doctoral education by providing an interdisciplinary environment where perspectives from the humanities and social sciences are combined with knowledge of digital methods and data-driven processes. Through courses, workshops, and networking activities, DASH enables PhD candidates to develop a critical understanding of how data and digital technologies shape research, culture, institutions, and society at large.

The research school is particularly aimed at doctoral candidates who lack a technical or computational background but wish to build competence in order to integrate digital tools and data analysis into their dissertation projects.

DASH also serves as a national platform for collaboration between higher education institutions and contributes to building long-term capacity in digital humanities and related fields in Sweden.

DASH is led by Uppsala University in collaboration with Linnaeus University, Umeå University, and the University of Gothenburg.
