The conference is open to Swedish and international scientists/researchers/ graduate and undergraduate students/ other related professionals with interest in wastewater treatment technologies, waste-to-energy techniques, solid waste management and a Triple Helix platform. This is the fourth time the Linnaeus Eco-Tech conference is arranged as a part of the Linnaeus University formed 2010 in Kalmar, Sweden.

Piet N.L. Lens
He is Professor of Environmental Biotechnology at the Pollution Prevention and Resource Recovery Chair Group of the Department of Environmental Engineering and Water Technology of UNESCO-IHE. He has (co-)authored over 300 scientific publications and edited nine book volumes. He is founding Editor-in-Chief of the Review Journal “Re/Views in Environmental Science and Bio/Technology” and founding editor of the IWA Publishing series “Integrated Environmental Technology”. His research focuses on biofilms, sulfur biotechnology, metal speciation, bioavailability and removal, natural treatment systems, anaerobic wastewater and waste gas treatment for resource recovery and reuse. Besides innovative research, he is also a leader in education and capacity-building, organising numerous study-days, conferences, summer schools and short courses.
He is Professor University of Latvia, Department of Environmental Sciences, Riga. He is author of over 168 scientific articles. In last few years M.Klavins has been involved in development of legislative system of environmental protection in Latvia regarding monitoring system, chemical substances, chemical safety, toxic wastes and especially is doing with the problems of analysis of environmental pollution. He carries out research activities in the field of environmental pollution and its chemical analysis, aquatic chemistry, sustainable management and quality of water.
Educated in Austria (doctoral degree in technical sciences, Vienna University of Technology), Dr. Kral holds a post-doc position at Vienna University of Technology, and specializes in waste and resource management. His research focuses on the life cycle of materials in the anthroposphere, in particular on methodologies and case studies to analyse, evaluate and manage material stocks and flows in the economy. The results are applied for decision making in in the fields of waste and resource management, and environmental protection.
Holder of a post-graduate diploma in economy from the Paris II Pantheon Sorbonne University in France, Catherine Bakang Mbock is former Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Women´s Affairs. She also spent more than ten years in the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises financing in Cameroon. The successive years she spent at the office of minister enriched her experience in gender policy and social inclusion of the following designated groups: the women, the early childhood, the elderly, the persons with disabilities, the Autochthonous people, and the victims of social plagues.
Dr. Nidal Mahmoud is now Associate professor, PhD in Environmental Engineering: anaerobic wastewater treatment and sludge digestion at Birzeit University, Birzeit, West Bank, Palestine. The Palestinian Water Authority awarded Nidal Mahmoud for publishing the best research in the water fields in Palestine over the years 2008-2010. He is a co-author of the bestselling book: Biological Wastewater Treatment: Principles, Modelling and Design.
Dr. Lilliana Abarca-Guerrero a chemist with 33 years of experience in training, project formulation, project coordination in areas related to drinking water, sanitation, waste and related environmental problems. The experience has been acquired working at a national and international cooperation agencies in various countries in the world, e.g. GTZ in Ecuador, Colombia, and Costa Rica, SIDA in Pakistan, Brasil and Costa Rica, World Bank in Costa Rica, among others. Together with Prof. William Hogland and Ger Maas she was awarded with the Atlas Award 2015, which is a prize for research that impacts everyone's world.
Muhammad Asim Ibrahim
Dr. Muhammad Asim Ibrahim has a background in Process Engineering, Environmental Sciences and Ecology. He defended his doctoral thesis in 2014. His research interests lie in the field of mitigation of risk of spontaneous fires at industrial storages of organic material, waste fuels and recyclables.
Mrs. Michelle Perello is Founder and Director at Consulta Europa, a small research and innovation company based in Canary Islands and with a Brussels office. She believes there is a strong need to foster social entrepreneurship in Europe as an instrument for the achievement of a wide circular economy and is enthusiastic about the idea of sharing her experience as entrepreneur with young aspiring entrepreneurs, in particular women, to support them in overcoming specific difficulties which relate to gender.
