Platform Migration
A strategic platform for migration and integration research at Linnaeus University will contribute to collaboration and increased knowledge exchange. Within the platform, researchers collaborate with professionals and organisations in the region.
A platform for increased knowledge
In Sweden and other welfare states, there is a lively discussion on the conditions for migration and integration. Questions concerning refugee flows, people's origin, or cultural differences are often perceived as controversial. Public policies may challenge fundamental perceptions of identity and belonging. Who has access to a national community without being questioned? Why are “the others” perceived as just being conditionally included? What does it take for cultures, religions, and traditions to coexist without open or hidden discrimination of people belonging to certain population categories? Through the platform’s activities, we want to contribute to an increased knowledge exchange on issues related to migration and integration.
Our work
The strategic platform promotes interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition, networks are developed via Linnaeus University’s collaboration with professionals and organisations in society. We focus primarily on stakeholders in the region where we work – Kalmar County and Kronoberg County. The platform aims to strengthen the conditions of migration and integration research through increased collaboration between researchers from multiple disciplines, professionals in relevant fields, public agencies, and nonprofit actors. However, an equally important aim is to disseminate knowledge and to stimulate new research questions through open seminars and other external activities. Through this type of meetings, we also want to create new opportunities for contacts between academic environments and a diversity of stakeholders in society.
The platform is coordinated by the faculty of social sciences and the collaboration also involves the faculty of arts and humanities and the school of business and economics.
