More about the project

The project aims to map the current crime prevention cooperation of the probation service in Sweden, called frivården, and to explore the underlying explanations for this. Through the project, I intend to clarify both the extent of the probation service's crime prevention agency cooperation and to explain why the probation service, which is constantly in contact with a large portion of the clientele targeted by crime prevention efforts, does not participate in a greater number of crime prevention cooperation projects.

The project is based on grounded theory and therefore aims to construct a theoretical explanatory model from the data collected to explain why the level of crime prevention cooperation in the probation service is as it is. To achieve this, I will use both qualitative and quantitative methods, including interviews, surveys, and document analysis. The interviews will initially be conducted solely with the probation service, after which other key cooperation partners identified during the initial data collection, such as the police and social services, will be included. The survey will consist of two parts: one that focuses on mapping the current extent of the probation service's crime prevention agency cooperation, and another that aims to test the theoretical explanatory model developed through the qualitative method. Finally, the document analysis will include particularly relevant documents that can help position the probation service's crime prevention agency cooperation in a broader context, such as laws, investigations, and cooperation agreements.
