Doctoral project: Lateral stability of tall timber-frame buildings designed by prefabricated volumetric elements

The aim of this doctoral student project is to:
• Analyze tall timber-frame buildings loaded by wind loads by means of finite element models,
• Analyze the force distribution in buildings designed by timber-frame volumetric elements.
• Validate the numerical models by state of the art experimental tests.

More about the project

The study will focus on numerical simulation and experimental tests of connections, shear walls and prefabricated volumetric elements. The method predominantly used for the study will be parametrized finite element models and experimental tests. Expressions found in Eurocode will be compared to the results from FE models as well as experiments, and more precise and therefore useful expressions for calculation of lateral strength of volume elements will be suggested.
