More about the project
Drawing on cultural sociological and cultural criminological perspectives, I am interested in processes of deviance and stigmatization, and how these occur at the individual, group, and societal levels.
My dissertation explores how drag participants experience and do familyhood, gender, and aging. Utilizing an ethnographic method, I examine how these themes are performed and narrated within the culture, how and why such constructions become meaningful, and what that results in. Furthermore, I am interested in stigmatization processes directed towards drag culture, and how drag participants negotiate their identity in relation to these cultural discourses.
