More about the project

In school research, it has been pointed out how, though students have different experiences and identities, school education is 'monocultural', largely influenced by the majority culture in society. This may lead to an exclusion of minority students' experiences and hinder their possibilities to take on the educational content. For this reason, Intercultural education emphasises an increased awareness of the role of culture in education, the inclusion of school staff with diverse backgrounds, and teaching methods which pay attention to minority cultures as resources in education. In this project, I investigate the daily lives of students and teachers at a Secondary school using the intercultural approach. Central questions revolve around how students and teachers interact and interpret questions regarding culture in daily school life, and how the school challenges and reproduces social structures through its intercultural approach.
