About the project

Nostalgia in Contemporary European Culture (NCIC) is a research project funded by a workshop grant from the Joint Committee for Nordic research councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS). The project is hosted by the University of Oulu, Finland, and involves core researchers from Linnaeus University in Sweden and the University of Southern Denmark. Over the two-year project, a number of workshops and conference will be held to explore the centrality of nostalgia to a wide range of contemporary cultural practices. Research activities focus on four related areas: Memory, affect, and subjectivity; Nostalgia and empire; Migration and exile; and Anthropocene nostalgia.
