Swedish policy aims to reduce final energy use in buildings by 50% by 2050, and that new buildings are constructed with very low energy use. However, increased energy efficiency of buildings may have implications for energy supply systems. The aim of this project (2015-20) is to create new knowledge of resource- and cost-efficient built environment in new urban areas in Växjö based on renewable resources incorporating life cycle and system perspectives. The project is run by the Sustainable Built Environment Research group (SBER) at Linnaeus University in close cooperation with Växjö municipality, Växjö Energi AB and Växjöbostäder.
We conduct simulations of various energy efficiency measures to explore how the measures affect the buildings' energy balances on an hourly basis, and how changes in energy balances in turn affect the district heat production. This enables an assessment of which energy efficiency measures are effective and of how the measures in turn affect the district heat production.
