Location: Cementa AB, Degerhamn
Cement production releases flue gas and with it vast amounts of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Microalgae can use this flue gas as a CO2 source, and the algal biomass can be used as a resource for bioenergy or high value products. In this pilot project, we partnered with Cementa AB, a cement factory on the island of Öland, to examine the potential of using microalgae to capture CO2 from flue gas from the cement plant.
The project is part of the research in the research group Marine phytoplankton ecology and applications, Linnaeus University Centre for Ecology and Evolution in Microbial model Systems (EEMiS) and in Linnaeus Knowledge Environment: Water
