More about the project
How the forest resources are best used in climate mitigation efforts is debated both in Sweden and internationally. A national forest strategy influences – and is affected by – what is happening in the forest as well as industrial development, markets, and the policies that are implemented.
This project establishes an analytical framework that takes into account the forest sector's total climate benefits. The framework is built on an existing platform, SweFor, which integrates the forest, industrial facilities, transports, markets, and climate impacts.
The project will:
- Develop expertise in the field of forest sector analyzes by engaging younger researchers in collaborations with senior researchers.
- Add functionality to SweFor by adding updated forest/climate models, more differentiated models for industrial processes, and a model for quantification of carbon balances.
The usefulness of the framework is demonstrated in a case study and results disseminated.
The project is part of the research in the Forest Management and Forest Economics research group.
