We want to create a programme...

• with a clear profile in an area where we are strong in terms of research
• that by being more relevant to industry becomes more attractive to students
• which constitutes a direct link between university research and business skills needs
• which is better suited in terms of content to the 2- and 3-year programmes in Computer Science given at Linnaeus University
• which is available not only to students residing in Kalmar and Växjö, but in the long term provided by distance and thus globally available.

The new programme will focus on systems architecture, an area with many "hot" applications in the business world. The choice of focus of the programme is the result of a preliminary study based on reports of future skills needs in the IT industry, and interviews with representatives from industry and current and former students. A focus on system architecture is also well established in the department's research.

The programme will be based on three thematic courses that focus on the Internet of Things, Big Data and Smart Systems. The purpose of these courses is to illustrate how system architectures is used in real systems, and how the choice and the implementation effect the system.

The development of the programme's content is conducted in close collaboration with industry. The project makes use of an established model for cooperation based on the so-called Club of Experts (CoE), which is a small expert group with representatives from industry and the university that define the content of the education. A reference group will then be given the opportunity to provide feedback on the programme content.

The new programme will have a strong focus on practical application. Many courses will therefore have project-based learning as a pedagogical method. Our hope is that the courses will be provided in close cooperation with industry and that they will focus on real cases and techniques.
