The purpose of the project is to solve real societal challenges by combining municipal administrations and municipal companies with the digital innovators of the business community, to develop digital solutions that meet society's various needs through business-related innovation.
Needs had already been identified before the project started. Two examples are developing smart heating systems for real estate, and a city-wide snow monitoring system that, through sensors and cameras, contributes to creating completely new opportunities.
– The idea is that the collaboration between the business and the innovator should contribute to the development of unique cutting-edge solutions that solve specific needs in Växjö, but also may be sold by the innovator to other municipalities or abroad. Also, I'm glad that we can get started with the work fairly quickly, says project developer Bo Hjälmefjord.
Within the project, various workshops will be carried out where the residents are also involved. As a result, the collaboration and benefits of the digital products being developed will be even greater – and the target is clear. The project will contribute to the establishment of a common IT platform, to the development of at least ten digital services based on identified needs and challenges, and to at least six digital services based on data.
The project covers three years and is called Diaccess, Digital acceleration for medium size sustainable cities. It starts on 1 September 1 2019 and is implemented by Växjö Municipality, Wexnet, Vöfab, WeXO via Castellum, Dizparc, Företagsfabriken, Goda Hus and Linnaeus University. The budget is approximately SEK 45 million, of which SEK 36 million is a contribution from the EU programme Urban Innovation Actions. The remaining budget consists largely of time resources from the project's participating actors.
