More about the project
Welding is one of the most important manufacturing and production technologies used by the industry. However, this process causes residual stresses in the final product. These residual stresses may increase the risk of the development of fatigue cracks in the vicinity of the welds.
The purpose of the present project is to simulate the welding process, in order to better understand the physics of the process. This may provide more accurate tools for predicting residual stresses and thereby to enable more accurate life time predictions of welded structures.
The project is part of the research in the Welding Mechanics Laboratory (WML) research group.
