More about the project
Children's and youth's leisure time plays a significant role in their living conditions. Meaningful leisure activities positively impact their health, as well as their personal and social development. However, the opportunities for meaningful leisure are unequally distributed across the country. In Swedish policy development within the child and youth sector, there has been considerable focus on preventive measures to improve the situation for young people.
Within Activity Prevents in Markaryd, a variety of activities are organised in collaboration with municipal departments, businesses, and civil society to promote the well-being of young people and, in the long term, to prevent ill-health. The study is conducted through ethnographic fieldwork and interviews, with young people's narratives being central to understanding their views on Activity Prevents, their opportunities for participation and influence, and what hinders or limits their involvement.
Furthermore, the study aims to identify the factors and components that are crucial for a project like Activity Prevents to succeed, or in other words, what is needed for the project to meet children's needs and their right to meaningful leisure time. The study commenced in January 2024.
The study is conducted within the research programme Connected Children and is part of the research carried out by the research group Research on Interventions and Support for Children and Youth (RISCY).
