More about the project
The project focuses on mathematics education in compulsory school for students with intellectual disabilities, abbreviated ID. There are different levels of ID, and the study will be conducted with students who have mild ID. ID affects the person's intellectual and cognitive ability. This means that it can be challenging to grasp concepts that are abstract. The curriculum (LGRA 22) states that students should learn, explore, and work both independently and collaboratively with others. Students should also feel confident in their own abilities. The teaching in this study will be planned by the researcher and the teacher according to a specific structure.
The study will focus on the connection between different representations of mathematics and the students' understanding of the mathematical content. The focus will be on how the teaching structure promotes the student's active participation and becomes visible through the student's own initiative and reasoning. This can provide students with the opportunity to become more independent in everyday life and develop confidence in themselves. It can also support continued learning in mathematics and further studies for the student.
The project is part of the research in the research group Mathematics Education and is part of the research in the Linnaeus Knowledge Environment Education in change
