Project: Optimization for sustainable energy supply and food production in rural areas
The project is about how energy systems on farms can be optimized to realize the potential that farms have to be self-sufficient in renewable energy from, for example, sun power, wind power and biogas.

More about the project
The project is about energy efficiency and realizing the potential for farms to be self-sufficient in energy. Within agriculture and forestry, there are great opportunities for renewable energy production from, for example, sun power, wind power and biogas. Within the project, we create solutions for how energy systems on farms can be optimized for increased profitability and reduced climate impact.
The project meets several needs at farm level, regional and national level such as increased competitiveness for agriculture, secured food production, crisis preparedness, reduced climate impact from the agricultural sector and balancing of the electricity market. The results from the project will be able to be used for optimal control of energy systems, and as a basis for investment decisions in connection with upgrading, development of energy systems on farms. Partial results from the project will also be used in education of engineering mathematics.
The project is part of the research in the research group AI and machine learning for optimization and operations research
