More about the project

In late 2021, a social media campaign about the Swedish social services’ use of the law on the Swedish Care of Young Persons (Special Provisions) Act referred to in Swedish as (LVU) spread rapidly on different platforms.

The law allows the social services to relocate minors from their homes to either a foster home or a family home when there are grounds for concern that minors and young people under 21 are at risk of being abused or neglected, or when there are other factors in the home which pose a substantial risk.

The events that unfolded as individuals began to protest Swedish social services were related to issues of trust. Hence, the aim of this qualitative interview study is to investigate how was the LVU campaign handled and responded to by Swedish media organizations and social services and other relevant authorities.
