This is a collaborative project between Linnaeus University, Sweden and Kathmandu Medical College, Nepal. This research aims to promote gender equality and assess the efficacy of the Forum Theatre in reducing gender inequality and sexual trafficking in Nepal.
The research is conducted among ten comparisons and ten control groups involving 2000 respondents (1190 female and 810 male) in the Morang district of Eastern Nepal. The study uses pre-tested color-coded audio assisted computer based self-interview (C-ACASI) method for the administration of the questionnaire in a mobile table device. The prior audio recording of questions in separate male and female voices reduces possible biases and also reaches to illiterate population. The use of this method ensures confidentiality, security, and anonymity addressing the sensitivity of the issues raised by this research. The baseline information from the study population was conducted in November-December 2016. Three rounds of forum theatre intervention in the comparisons group were performed in 2017. A total of thirty in-depth interviews and six focus groups discussions have been accomplished in the comparison group among male and female respondents.
The evaluation of the project commences from May 2018 among both control and comparison group. The project aims to develop replicable methods of scientific inquiry to promote gender equality and reduce violence against women and sexual trafficking.
