Forest and forest products can be important element of an overall strategy to mitigate climate change. Using wood products made from sustainably managed forests can reduce net CO2 emission by substituting in place of fossil fuels and energy-intensive materials.

This project evaluates different silvicultural options for southern Sweden in terms of carbon balance, and investigates the climate mitigation benefits in a lifecycle perspective for different bioenergy and wood building systems. A key goal is to identify and evaluate silvicultural and wood use options that will likely reduce risk in the context of climate change.

The project focuses on comprehensive system analysis of different silvicultural options for Kronobergs county, combined with different bioenergy and wood building systems. It is conducted by the Sustainable Built Environment Research group (SBER) in collaboration with the Forestry group at Linnaeus University, and is funded by Södra. The project began in 2015 and it is expected to be completed in 2018.
