More about the project
Culture and creativity are increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence (AI). Today, AI systems can generate text, images, and sound at a speed and scale previously unimaginable. However, these technologies also present challenges: they risk reinforcing stereotypes, marginalizing certain groups, and reshaping how we understand art, culture, and creative work. Additionally, they have a significant environmental impact.
The proposed research cluster network The Culture Code investigates how AI can be used in a sustainable, inclusive, and ethical way within creative and cultural sectors. By combining humanities, social sciences, arts, and technology, we aim to understand how AI transforms cultural expression and how we can shape the technology to support democratic and equitable futures.
The network consists of researchers from six Swedish universities, as well as international collaborators and cultural institutions. During the planning phase, we will host seminars, a workshop, and a writing retreat to jointly develop a proposal for a future excellence cluster. The goal is to create a shared vision for how AI can contribute to cultural diversity, sustainability, and broader access to cultural heritage.
